An ovolo router bit cuts a rounded edge profile, while BVF also lists the 9-Jacks 9945 as a 14 mm, 45° V-shaped bit. The Universal ovolo codes 259–266 have listed cutting diameters from 10 to 38 mm and an 8 mm shank; use the code chart to compare the two dimensions.

Router bit code and size chart

The cutting diameter and shank are separate fields in the Universal descriptions. Read both when comparing a bit with your job's tooling specification. The chart reproduces the listed figures rather than inferring a shank from the product title.

Ovolo: compare the code and diameter

Universal describes its ovolo bits as cutting a rounded profile on the edge of the material. Code 259 lists a 10 mm cutting diameter; code 260 lists 12 mm; code 261 lists 15 mm. The same series continues through 19, 22, 25, 32 and 38 mm cutting diameters. Each of those descriptions states an 8 mm shank.

V-shaped: check the angle field

The 9-Jacks 9945 description lists a 14 mm cutting diameter, 9 mm cutting height and 45° angle. Treat those as the listing's separate specification fields. Request a drawing if your job needs confirmation of how the stated angle is defined.

What to check before buying

Compare the Universal (Code 260) 12mm x 8mm Ovolo CNC Router Bit, Universal (Code 264) 25mm x 10mm Ovolo CNC Router Bit and Universal (Code 266) 38mm x 12mm Ovolo CNC Router Bit when checking different ovolo cutting diameters. For the V-shaped listing, see the 9-Jacks (9945) 14mm 45° V Shaped CNC Router Bit. Use the product code together with the stated profile.

  • Confirm the profile required by the drawing or approved sample.
  • Compare the cutting diameter with the intended cut.
  • Confirm the shank requirement for your machine's tool holding.
  • Ask for cutting length, radius or angle definition where the job needs it.
  • Obtain the tool maker's operating instructions and speed limits.
