How to read the code
In a code like MCLNR 2525 M12, the first letters give the clamping system and insert shape, R or L is the hand, 2525 is the shank size in mm and the last part is the insert size. The full key is in How to read a turning holder code, and Which insert fits which turning holder? pairs each holder with its insert.
How to choose
- Shank: match your lathe's tool post. 25x25 is common on medium lathes, 20x20 on smaller ones.
- Hand: R (right hand) and L (left hand) holders cut in opposite directions; R is the usual choice for turning towards the chuck.
- Insert: buy the insert family named in the table (CNMG 12, DNMG 15, TNMG 16, VBMT 16, WNMG 08, 16ER threading or T15 grooving).
